The Man: Grant
I am married to Grant Bingham. He’s worked for IBM all his life, went to them straight out of university. He once made a major career move and joined Lotus. Only, Lotus was bought by IBM. So now he’s back there. We met at Lotus and only started dating five years after we met. He’s been my other half since 2 April 2005. He's incredibly smart, dropdead good looking, has the most amazing character and is also my best friend. Being married to another geek makes life very interesting.

The Cat: Nino

You know the cat, she's my feature model on the blog page logo. She is siamese, temperamental, slightly weird but an incredibly big smoochie - you can just squeeze her like a soft toy. I spoil her rotten, she honestly does rule the household.

The Dog: Chelsey

Chelsey started off as a cute, mostly labrador puppy that chews everything and in no time grew into an enormous dog. That chews everything. She is the cutest thing alive and I swear I'm not biased when I say that her face is the prettiest of all dogs in the universe. And she has a little beauty spot on her left side of her nose. We should have called her Marilyn. But no, we called her Chelsey 'cause we're also huge Chelsea fans.

Chelsey was diagnosed with hip dysplasia and I keep a running tab on her amazing progress here .

The other dog: Arthur
Arthur is our lovely Golden Retriever and is a real heartbreaker. He likes hugs and kisses, and would probably be able to get a job at Hallmarks, as a model. Our two dogs bring us a lot of happiness. :)

The Fish

Fish, oh boy, the fish. They are mostly live-bearers (mollies, guppies, platies) with some zebra danios and neon tetras in between. They pretty much maintain their own numbers so I've stopped giving them names. There are actually four two one zebra danio from the original batch of fish Grant brought home when the aquarium bug bit me. Man, they are were the toughest fish on earth.

The Sister-In-Law:
Carmen
Carmen is Grant's sister and after moving back from Namibia, stayed with us a bit before she found her own spot. She works for a juice company and brings home tons of juice. Before, she worked for a Namibian safari company and we visited her, staying in five star lodges for staff prices. Before that, she worked for a beer company and we had a constant supply of beer in our fridge. She is definitely the person with the most useful jobs that I have ever known.

The Cousin Dog: Terra

Terra is The Sister-In-Law's Jack Russell and is Chelsey and Arthur's best friend. Together, they're up to no good, especially when The Cat is involved.

The Turtle(s)

We had two turtles in the garden. We never knew exactly where they were but every now and again we'd see them and say Hey Dude. Unfortunately, the Dog and her Cousin got hold of one and we sadly found them too late. After that, we looked for the other one and set it free on a private farm just outside Cape Town.

The Others

  • We have a quaint birdbath & feeder that we brought back from our last Knysna trip. It attracts mostly oversized doves (that also eat the Dogs' food) but we also get some cute Cape sparrows, Cape White Eyes and others.
  • There's quite a few Chameleons in our garden and it's always a treat spotting one and the whole Family must be called to come out and watch it.
  • Since arrival of The Dogs, The Moles moved out. We don't miss them at all. Lawn destroying freaks.
  • When it rains, there is a funny smell in front of our house. Perhaps a troll that lives underneath the floorboards?

The Cars

I drive a 1991 Mazda MX5 (also called a Miata). It used to be blue, then the paint started peeling off so I resprayed it a lovely dove greyish blueish metallic colour. The engine, as old as it is, is flawless. It's a pretty cool car. We sometimes refer to it as "the small car". Our other car is a Kia Picanto, also referred to as "the big car". One day, when it grows up, it wants to be a Sportage.

Family Planning

My long term plan with the front of our house is to make a pond, put lots of goldfish in it, have some ducks and also get some bunnies. If we ever have kids, I believe there will be silkworms too. Nothing with more than four legs is planned at this point.

One last one: Thai-Thai

I lost my adorable Siamese cat, Thai-Thai, in 2005, about two weeks before my wedding. I got it when I was fourteen years old. That is a long friendship. I loved that cat so much, and everyone that ever met him agrees that he was just incredible. I still miss him, he was an adorable creature, the best cat in the world.
